Internship in Wildlife Population Health 2024-25
Overview
Wildlife is a topic that always concerned me. Habitat loss, climate change and anthropogenic effects in wildlife biodiversity and emerging infectious diseases made me release that I want to investigate and work with other professionals to achieve a One Health approach to deal with the current situation and protect wildlife ecosystems, as well as investigating how etiological agents circulate within wild populations, preventing disease outbreaks and creating protocols to help us to know how we should react in these cases.
BACKGROUND
I finished my degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2023. Since the beginning of my studies, I was part and eventually president of the association of veterinarians for the care of exotic and wildlife fauna (AVAFES) of Barcelona and I collaborated with the university service of wildlife ecopathology (SeFAS), doing with them my final degree project and helping some colleagues with their thesis. I also organized and attended to some talks, courses and conferences about wildlife around Spain to learn more about their conservation, biology and medical aspects. I formed part of a course about African carnivores in South Africa, and in my last year of studies I collaborated as a volunteer with two of the wildlife rescue centres of Catalonia. I did my practicum in a veterinary hospital with exotic animal services, where I have been working this last year while I was coursing a post-degree about medicine in exotic animals.
